Mahoney Bannon Associates'
Golden Anniversary brings extra lustre
to the Savoy Theatre
Stephen Holroyd and Alan Kite recently attended
the official unveiling of the newly named dressing rooms for the Savoy
Theatre.
The theatre opened on 10 October 1881 and up until
this year its dressing rooms have been numbered. Today they bear the
names of the original members of the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company, for
which the theatre was built.
Stephen Holroyd, an avid Gilbert and Sullivan
aficionado, wrote biographical desciptions of those company members,
known as "Savoyards", who created the original roles in Gilbert
& Sullivan's works - known to this day as the Savoy Operas.
Commissioned by Theatre Manager Adam Knight and
sponsored by Mahoney Bannon Associates to celebrate their 50th anniversary,
each dressing room bears a different biographical plaque. Be sure to
take a look next time you are backstage at the Savoy.
